“This may be the bottom of the barrel, but we are going to float elegantly all the way to the top.” Hulu has revealed the main official trailer for a gritty crime series called A Thousand Blows, made for Disney+ in the UK arriving for streaming in February on Hulu. 🇬🇧 The first two eps premiered at the 2024 London Film Festival last year. Created by Steven Knight, A Thousand Blows is inspired by the true-life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the violent East End of London in the 1880s. It’s about the fortunes (and challenges) of Hezekiah and Alec, two best friends newly arrived from Jamaica to the dirty & brutal streets of Victorian era London. Fighting for survival in the overwhelming melting pot of Victorian London’s East End, they come up against Sugar Goodson – a dangerous, veteran boxer. The cast includes Malachi Kirby and Francis Lovehall as Hezekiah and Alec, from Jamaica, along with Erin Doherty, Stephen Graham as boxer Sugar Goodson, Jason Tobin, and James Nelson-Joyce. This looks like it might be a damn good time – especially with this cast. Malachi Kirby is having an awesome time handling this lead role.

A Thousand Blows is inspired by the true-life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the brutal East End of London in the 1880’s. It’s there they meet Mary Carr (Erin Doherty), Queen of an all-female criminal gang known as The Forty Elephants, and run afoul of Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham), criminal kingpin and notorious boxer. What ensues is a battle of the old world against the new. A Thousand Blows is a series created and showrun by the acclaimed British screenwriter Steven Knight, known for writing Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, Locke, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Seventh Son, Pawn Sacrifice, Allied, Serenity, Locked Down, Spencer, and Maria, as well as “Peaky Blinders”, “Taboo”, and other TV series. With writing by Ameir Brown, In-Sook Chappell, Harlan Davies, Yasmin Joseph. Episodes directed by Dionne Edwards, Katrin Gebbe, Ashley Walters, Tinge Krishnan, Nick Murphy, Coky Giedroyc. It’s executive produced by Steven Knight, Tinge Krishnan, Stephen Graham, Hannah Walters, Damian Keogh, Kate Lewis, Tom Miller, Sam Myer, David Olusoga, & Lee Mason. Disney+ debuts A Thousand Blows streaming on Hulu in the US starting February 21st, 2025 this winter.
