Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) going to leave professionals out of work?
A man’s recent claim raises the question once again!

What happened?

A man recently shared online that the AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT diagnosed his disease and, in doing so, saved his life.
The internet user claimed that the AI-powered chatbot was able to detect his illness after he felt sick following a workout. What ‘impressed’ the man more is that, ChatGPT did so even before doctors, and hence saved his kidneys from being severely impacted.
The man in question took to Reddit to share his one-of-a-kind experience.
He said, “ChatGPT saved my life. About a week ago I decided to do a workout, something I didn’t think was too intense, but I woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus.” He revealed that even though he only did a few pushups, squats, and planks, his coffee intake was high and he was dehydrated. As he continued to feel unwell for two more days, he became curious about his symptoms and decided to seek ChatGPT’s help.

The aftermath:

Once the man entered all the symptoms he had, as per his claim, the chatbot processed that date and asked him to immediately seek medical help at a hospital as it diagnosed him with “moderate to severe Rhabdomyolysis”.
To be sure, the Reddit user did some more searches, and he was convinced that ChatGPT was indeed correct.
After being fairly sure that he was suffering from something serious, he went to a hospital. As he revealed, “They performed lab work and it turned out that I had developed severe Rhabdomyolysis, essentially when your muscles break down rapidly and the proteins can clog your kidneys.”
The Reddit man revealed that he was immediately admitted to the hospital and spent a week in the hospital being monitored.
However, he didn’t stop there. He revealed, “I also used ChatGPT to analyse my lab results, which was on par with what the medical team was saying. I knew what was going on before I was even told by the doctor what was going on due to the analysis conducted by ChatGPT.”

What is Rhabdomyolysis?

Rhabdomyolysis is a rare but serious condition that occurs when muscle cells break down and release their contents into the bloodstream. This can lead to organ damage, kidney failure, and even death if left untreated.
Rhabdomyolysis, also known as “rhabdo”, can cause muscle pain, weakness, and dark urine. Other symptoms include:
Muscle pain: Soreness that feels out of proportion to the exercise or injury
Muscle stiffness: Decreased range of motion
Swelling: Swelling in the arms and legs
Urine: Dark red, cola-colored, or brown urine, or very little or no urine
Fatigue: Extreme fatigue and/or weakness
Apart from these, nausea, vomiting, headache, confusion, and fever are some signs of the rare disease. Rhabdo symptoms can mimic other conditions like heat cramps and dehydration.
Although AI can analyze and learn from this data, patterns, and correlations that may go unnoticed by human eyes can be detected and are improving features with every passing day, it is not advisable to solely depend on AI’s diagnoses in case of a sensitive issue like health. Any decision regarding the same should be taken after thorough consultation with a healthcare professional.
